REDMOND

This image above of my dad with the kids in the Bobcat bucket is one of my favorite photos of all time. When my sister and I were kids our dad would pull similar stunts. He would even pop wheelies by reversing up to speed then quickly shifting to drive. I’m sure our expressions were real similar to the kids in the photo above.

Shortly after we had finished the Portland House my folks moved from beautiful Durango, Colorado to Redmond, Oregon, to be closer to the grandkids. If you’ve ever been to Durango I’m sure you can appreciate how difficult a choice that must have been.

But they did make the move and then designed and built this house in 2016/17. It was fun to spend the weekends at their rental, not far from the skatepark and pumptrack and help out on certain sections of the house. Elsa did most of the work while I just hung around and filmed and took photos.

Redmond Construction - 01:00

My folks spent a full month living with us when we were framing our house in Portland, so the least we could do was pitch in on some of their project whenever we could. We also couldn’t have gotten as much done on the Portland house or the Redmond house without the help of each of us doing all our little outings and activities with the kiddos. My mom brought them to the pool, the driving range, and the park a million times, which was amazing for all of us. We got to explore a lot of Redmond at this stage and watch the kids interact with nature.

I’m grateful to be able to share with our kids the kind of attention and experiences my folks were able to share with my sister and me when we were little. It’s great to see Nico and Elsa both learning to use tools and making things in their own unique ways while growing up surrounded by construction.
